Feelings…ugh!

I am once again reminded how untrustworthy and fleeting our feelings can be. As I sat writing an email to a new friend, I quickly found that I was caught up in past feelings as I explained my backstory.

Feelings should really be a four-letter word. They are not to be trusted. It’s true, God gave us feelings, but oh! how the enemy has twisted and distorted them. If we are not careful, we can be led astray.

We have to preach the gospel to ourselves and remind our spirit of what God’s truth is. We are loved. We are not alone. We are useful – at any age. We are ambassadors for Christ. We have a calling for a heavenly kingdom that cannot be shaken. Whatever we have been called to do, we can do through His strength and power.

How many times have we talked ourselves out of something because our feelings led us into false thinking? Feelings are divisive. We allow other people to dictate our feelings based on their words.

“You can’t…”

“You will never…”

“You don’t have….”

“You’re not…”

And then our feelings take over. We become hostage to them. We begin to believe our feelings over our faith. We trust our finicky feelings more than God’s truth.

If you are there, I get you. I have been there, too. More often than I care to admit.

True, others should be more encouraging and less critical, especially in the body of Christ. Yet, we are in control of our actions and thoughts. We can determine not to follow our feelings. We can stand on the truth of God’s Word and not be swayed by the enemy.

So, think about it. What truth of God’s Word do you need to speak to yourself today? Do you need to remember that you are loved? 1 John 4:10.

Do you need to remember that you are heard? Luke 11:9-13.

Do you need to remember that you are valuable to Him? Ephesians 2:4-7.

Do you need to remember that you are forgiven and worthy? Romans 8:1.

Do you need to remember that you are important, of value, and never alone? Psalm 139:1-16.

Never let your feelings hi-jack your faith!

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” ~Hebrews 4:12.
